So many of us want to work on our fitness and our dance moves at the same time, and so many of us automatically think of Zumba when it comes to choosing a dance workout.
We agree that Zumba is awesome and, as you can see, we’ve included it on our list below! There are some other great options out there that you might want to try too.
To help you compare and contrast, we highlight the top six for you on our list below. Mixed in with the modern choices below, we’ve also included one retro favorite that you have to check out. The best dance workout DVD list just has to include one of our favorite dancers from the 80’s and 90’s!
Dance Style
Hip-hop is the most common choice for a dance workout. It pumps you up, it’s exciting, and it burns a lot of calories. If you head out for a night on the town you’ll probably want some new moves for the dance floor.
If you’re looking for something a little more slow-paced, you might enjoy the Barre workout:
- Barre. Barre workouts mix mat-based exercises and ballet techniques in order to provide you with a workout.
In a professional studio, you would use an actual ballet bar since the workout style is a fusion of ballet, Pilates, Yoga and other dance moves. Most of us don’t have a ballet bar at home. Instead, these videos have you use a chair or something similar to help you work out.
Check out numbers 1 and 3 if you’re looking for something to help sculpt, slim and stretch your body!
- Other Dance. Hip-hop isn’t the only type of dance incorporated into faster-paced workouts.
Zumba, for example, incorporates choreography from soca, samba, salsa, merengue and mambo.
Beachbody’s dance workout – CIZE – is a mixture of dance moves that are broken down step-by-step to help you learn them. Then they’re mixed together to form a complete workout. They also offer Hip Hop Abs if you’re looking for a complete kit that guides you in food choices in addition to teaching you fun hip-hop moves to help you tone abs and blast away fat.
- Aerobic. Our last suggestion is to throw it back to the 90’s and have some fun with Paula Abdul.
Here aerobic dance workout will help you strengthen and tone and you’ll learn a mixture of dance moves along the way.
This isn’t too fast-paced nor to slow. A medium-paced workout for those of you who are looking for something in between!
