Finding the Right Style for You

We wanted to be sure and include the best yoga pants for both men and women, but for both genders, there are a few common rules to take into consideration as you shop.

  • Length of the Pant Legs. The length of the pants is really up to you and your comfort level, but the season and outside temperature will play a big role in your decision.

For Bikram yoga (a.k.a. hot yoga) sessions, you don’t want a long pair of cotton and polyester pants since they will just make you hotter. Capris pants would be better for this specific style of yoga, as are yoga-friendly shorts.

  • Fit. Form-fitting pants are good for certain types of yoga since you really don’t want any baggy, floppy fabric getting in the way of your poses.

On the other hand, those looser-fitting pants are ideal for relaxing yoga such as Yin or Hatha.

Form-fitting leggings or capris are the most popular option and remember that some of the have a high waist panel that will provide you with a bit of tummy control.

Consider the Material

As you can see on our list, we didn’t include any 100% cotton pants, mainly because cotton alone isn’t stretchy enough and because it will soak up all of your sweat.

We suggest you stick with a cotton/Spandex mix, a nylon/Spandex mix, or opt for modal.

  • Cotton/Spandex. In cooler weather, a pair of cotton and Spandex pants are ideal. They keep you warm, they’re soft to the touch, and the Spandex makes them stretchy and comfortable.

Keep in mind that cotton will shrink when you wash it, and even though there is Spandex in there, it will also absorb moisture from your body.

Pants or capris with polyester mixed in will most likely be more durable because of this material, but remember that polyester is not breathable and can make your session a bit stuffy in warmer weather.

  • Nylon/Spandex. We like nylon, and since it is so commonly used to make swimwear, workout clothes, and athletic wear, we find that a pair of pants made from a mixture of nylon and Spandex to be ideal.

If gymnasts can tumble, do cartwheels and rolls on the mat, you can easily perform advanced yoga moves in this material.

You will find this material to be more moisture wicking than cotton, but it does tend to pill over time as the fibers wear down.

  • Modal. This is a type of Rayon.

Rayon is made from the wood pulp of a tree, and in the case of Modal, the tree used is a beech tree.

In some ways, it is much better than cotton for working out. It slightly more breathable, it is more resistant to shrinkage, and it feels silkier on your skin. It is more durable than nylon and can handle frequent washing, and when you’re sweating your stress away for an hour each day, you need to make sure you wash these!

Top 5 Best Yoga Pants Reviews

1. 4-rth Men’s Transition Cuffed Yoga Pant

For men, 4-rth makes some of the best yoga pants for use in warm weather.

They are more fitted in the leg but have a dropped crotch that won’t leave you feeling constricted or uncomfortable. They come with two usable pockets and a drawstring that allows you to adjust the fit around the waist. The fact that they used a flat cording rather than a round one also means that this drawstring will not cause uncomfortable bulges when you’re doing certain poses, which is important!

As we mentioned already, pants made from Modal are much better for yoga than those made from cotton. These are more breathable and dry out faster than the latter, and the fit is great. We were also impressed with the construction quality.

The sizes range from X-small to X-Large, and they are also available in a wide variety of colors. Buy local and support these pants that are 100% Made in the USA!

2. 90 Degree By Reflex 22″ Yoga Capris

Many women prefer to wear a nice pair of leggings like these when it comes to practicing yoga or Pilates, and for the price, it’s hard to go wrong with 90 Degree by Reflex’s leggings.

Each leg measures 22 inches in length and thanks to the mixture of nylon and Spandex; you’ll find that the 4-way stretch and moisture wicking properties provide you with a pleasant workout environment on the mat.

We found them to be ideal for hot yoga since the material helps wick the sweat away from your skin, but they were equally as comfortable for more relaxed styles of yoga where you weren’t sweating as much. The material is thick enough that no one will be able to see through to your skin, but we did start to notice some pilling after a few months of using them which was, sadly, not a surprise.

To prolong the life of these leggings, be sure to hand wash them in cold water and line dry. We know how tempting it is to throw them in the wash, but they will last so much longer if you don’t!

3. Jockey Women’s Slim Capri Flare Pant

If you prefer a pair of capris pants made with cotton, then Jockey has a noteworthy pair that we recommend.

Being a Jockey product, we did not doubt the construction quality; these are holding up fine after a few months of use. They also have a gusset sewn into the crotch area (great for stretching) that has a moisture wicking liner.

If the weather is warmer and you’re looking for a versatile pair of pants that you can use for other workouts, these are great.

Regarding the fit, we notice that the waist panel seemed to stretch out a bit over time and with use. Since there is no drawstring to hold them up, this could present an issue for some, so be sure you double check the sizing before you purchase.

Shrinkage is a tiny issue due to the cotton, but the polyester helps them keep their form fairly well. These are quite comfortable!

4. Yoga[Addict]™ Men’s Yoga Long Pants

Men who prefer a longer yoga pant will love this pair from Yoga Addict.

These are extremely comfortable and roomy without feeling like you’re wearing a bag. If you’re practicing a more relaxed style of yoga, then these are ideal.

The construction quality is superb, and they have pockets just like the 4-rth capris do. We also liked that they used a flat cord for the drawstring again. No bulge!

Keep in mind that the material is thick, making these pants most appropriate for use in colder weather.

For yoga, martial arts, a walk at the park or a jog on the treadmill, it’s hard to go wrong with a comfortable pair of pants like these.

5. Viosi Women’s Premium Yoga Pants

These are probably some of the most flattering yoga pants on the list for women.

The wide waistband at the top gives you tummy control, and we love the different colors.

Do you know your inseam measurement? If not, we suggest that you take note of it before you purchase these pants because the legs are long. The small size has a 31.5-inch inseam, and the X-Large size has a 33-inch inseam! We’re afraid to say that shorter gals won’t have much luck with these.

Regarding the flare at the bottom, we admit that it is flattering for some figures, but when practicing yoga, it can be a bit impractical.

For relaxing styles of yoga where you are more focused on deep stretching than advanced poses, these will work if you’re tall.
